Resource Sharing & Interlibrary Loan

Log in to ILLiad

Which service should I use?

The Resource Sharing Department is here to help you find what you need, and by extending collections outside of Harvard, the world of information is at your fingertips.

Looking for an article?

  1. Check for instant access: Search HOLLIS+ to see if Harvard provides access to the article online. The article may, instead, be available in a print journal.
  2. If Countway owns the journal in print, you can come to the library and scan the article or request a PDF of it through Interlibrary Loan.
  3. If another Harvard library owns the article, use the Scan & Deliver service. You will receive an email when it is ready (within 4 business days)
  4. If the article is not available at Harvard, use Interlibrary Loan.

Looking for a book or other media?

  1. Search HOLLIS+ to see if Harvard owns the item. If the item is available, you can head to the owning library to check it out.
  2. If the item has a 'Request Item' link, you can have it delivered to any Harvard library within the next 4 business days.
  3. If the item is unavailable through Harvard, look for 'Not Available at Harvard?' at the bottom of the page. This 'Request Item' link will take you to Borrow Direct, a consortium of partner institutions, and the book will arrive within 4 business days.
  4. Still can't find it? Request it through Interlibrary Loan.

Looking for a dissertation?

  1. Search ProQuest for dissertations and theses. There may be an online copy available.
  2. If the dissertation is Harvard affiliated, search the DASH repository. DASH, Digital Access to Scholarship @ Harvard, is our institutional repository and houses many dissertations and theses.
  3. No luck? Submit a loan request through Interlibrary Loan
