The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), The Boston Medical Library (BML) and
the Countway Library of Medicine collaborated to establish a branch library at the MMS's
headquarters in Waltham Woods and opened its doors in February 2000. The Branch Library links physicians and staff at the MMS headquarters with
the knowledge and resources available through the Countway Library, and will open avenues for
further collaboration and exchange.
Society members have access to the expertise and resources of an on-site
reference and education librarian. The Branch houses a carefully developed reference collection
and displays MMS historical documents and medical artifacts. It is open to members of the Boston Medical Library and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
by Emily Bell, on-site reference librarian, the first Wednesday of each month from 9AM - 5PM.
She is also available for remote consultation by email during the business week. The
clock by swipe card only available at the security desk.
In addition to use of the BML Branch Library, MMS Members can use the Francis A. Countway
Library of Medicine (10 Shattuck St., Boston). Countway houses the famous Boston Medical Library
and the Harvard Medical School Library. The Countway provides MMS Members access and borrowing
privileges to the Countway's Collections and Resources, including in-house use of scholarly
historical materials and a full range of reference and education services. Visit the Countway
web site for more information.
